And I miss you so…

letters-814_640Dear You,

I miss you. There. I said it. I don’t know if I am allowed to anymore, things being the way they are, but it’s how I feel. I wander the halls at home a little dazed on  so many days, constantly thinking of you. Because I still need you…like I have for so many years.

Do you remember how close we were? Spending hours and hours together? Uninterrupted. In silence. Alone in our own little world? At peace in each other’s company? There was very little that could separate you from me…but now, how things have changed! It’s been almost a year since we began growing apart…but the ache I have because of your absence only grows stronger everyday.

Oh Sleep!! How I miss you! Come back to me, please?

Love ever,
Me…a sleep deprived mamma.

To the Men…

paper-535969_1280Dear Men,

It’s international women’s day today. A day when the world acknowledges women and their pivotal role in society. A day when we can stand up and proudly say that we are strong, brave, independent, competitive and fierce – not the weaker sex but equals with you! But, as we celebrate what should be the turn of the tide, why are you doing your absolute best to crush our spirit?

Men, in your seats of power, you pass laws that offer more protection to cows than women and still think you are fit to talk of progress. You do not dole out punishment to those of your gender guilty of marital rape. Would you force such “duty” on your own wives and daughters? There is no place of refuge or solace for women who have been tortured, physically and mentally, by other men like you. Do you not remember that you made a vow to protect your wife when the two of you made your way around the sacred fire? How can you not see that the weeping woman could be her? There is no justice for women who are victims of heinous crimes but, if that wasn’t bad enough, you give her no sympathy either, finding ways to pin the blame on her instead! Like the way she is dressed or how late in the evening she is out or that she is with a male friend should make a difference when it comes to her safety… Are you not afraid that one day that nameless faceless woman could easily be your daughter? Things have deteriorated so much that it is now unsafe even for our children to play outside because there are those of your “superior” gender with an insatiable hunger for the unthinkable. How do you sleep at night?

Men, will you ever see us as your equals or will we forever be just objects that you can use and discard?

Men, do you not see that because of acts so brutal, so cruel and so barbaric committed by some of your gender, all of you are looked at with suspicion and distrust? That unless you change your attitude, more incidents like the ones that have already shocked the world will continue to take place? That we must teach our sons to treat our women respectfully? Do you not see that the drastic, immediate change should have taken place yesterday?

Dear Men, I was angry…once. Now,  I am just disappointed.

Thank you for giving us so much to celebrate this women’s day…

UBC12: Farewell Old Friend

My Dearest,

It’s been a while since we talked hasn’t it? About eight years maybe? Yes, I think it’s been about that long. How have you been? Has life been good to you? Since I could always tell you the truth, I’ve got to tell you I’ve seen better days than these….but, let’s not get into that now.

Friend, do you know that I never left? I’ve been right here all this while patiently waiting for you. But, I’ve waited in vain. You never came. Not once. Did you find someone better? Someone who made you happy? If you did, I hope it was worth casting me aside, not even popping in for an occasional visit when once we were inseparable. To say I was not angry would be a lie but slowly, the anger died and was replaced with disappointment and cruel acceptance. I realize that’s how life works. Friends fall apart. People move away and it was naive for me to think we would be together forever. Wasn’t it?

Dearest, didn’t we have a good run, while it lasted? The pictures we viewed together, the testimonials we wrote and the ones that people wrote for us and left us all warm inside? I have missed you as I want to believe you have missed me too. I wish we had more time. Perhaps I could have changed and you would have come back to me.

But, it’s too late now. Time has just about run out.

So, goodbye old friend. Perhaps we will meet again…in another time, another life.

Yours as ever,

UBC8: Today

Today is good day for me.

For starters, this is the first time I’ve managed to have the discipline to post something everyday for so long. For regular bloggers I’m sure that 8 days of posting is nothing, but for me, I’ve never been able to do it before. The only time I came close was the  Write Tribe Festival of Words in September last year!

Today also marks the day I reached my 100th follower! Yay!!! Do a happy dance with me now! 🙂 100 people (almost all of whom I don’t know personally) read things I’ve written! Thank you everyone for encouraging me by liking or commenting or sharing or just following and reading my posts…you make me happy! Yes, you! 🙂

I am also glad to tell you that the phone network people seem to have read my letter to them and today, when I turned on my phone out of sheer habit, I was overjoyed to find an SMS from the network providers saying they registered my number!! Finally that blue notification light will go back to doing what it was meant to do…blinking!! 😀

SAM_0053 (2)Today is also extremely wonderful because it’s my second wedding anniversary. Two years since I officially became a grown up.

Husband, I know you’ll read this post some time…maybe not today, but when you do, happy anniversary! Am glad everyday that you said yes when you did… xoxoxoxo
